Our organization is actively seeking a Vascular Neurologist to join our expanding cerebrovascular team, focusing on a research career development pathway. This role will integrate into a network of specialized academic physicians, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers, delivering exceptional care across our health system, which encompasses a comprehensive stroke center, a thrombectomy-capable stroke center, a primary stroke center, and six acute stroke-ready hospitals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert clinical care for complex cerebrovascular patients both in-person and through telestroke services.
- Engage in a robust telemedicine network, ensuring integrated inpatient care and emergency stroke consultations throughout our health network.
- Collaborate with neurocritical care specialists, cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, and neuro-interventionalists to enhance patient care across the continuum.
- Lead innovative quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing patient care and exploring new healthcare delivery models.
- Incorporate educational opportunities into clinical practice, mentoring trainees including stroke fellows, neurocritical care fellows, residents, and medical students.
During the designated research time, faculty members will:
- Complete relevant coursework at the University of Minnesota's esteemed School of Public Health, focusing on methodology and grant-writing, with encouragement to pursue a Master's Degree in clinical research, supported by the Stroke Program.
- Engage in self-directed research projects under mentorship, aiming for future grant submissions.
- Have the chance to lead significant clinical trials at local, national, and international levels.
- Explore additional opportunities for research, teaching, and leadership based on qualifications.
This position is structured as a three-year track designed for those aspiring to become clinician scientists, mirroring an NIH career development award. The first year includes 50% protected time for research, while the second and third years offer at least 25% protected time, adaptable based on the applicant's career aspirations and any internal funding acquired during the first year.

Applicants should possess a medical degree, having completed an ACGME-accredited neurology residency and a vascular neurology fellowship. A strong commitment to educating trainees and contributing to clinical research is essential. While prior telestroke experience is not mandatory, a keen interest in telemedicine and a collaborative approach to addressing cerebrovascular patient needs is expected. Additional qualifications include:
- A current or eligible unrestricted Minnesota State Medical License.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible status; if not yet certified, there is an expectation to achieve certification within two years of hire.
- Support for qualified J1 applicants.
This role is jointly employed by our organization and the University of Minnesota. The total salary is competitive and aligned with AAMC salary benchmarks, with a clinical salary based on clinical responsibilities provided through our organization. The base salary range for this position is $218,757 - $344,326, depending on experience, qualifications, and clinical full-time equivalent (cFTE). The salary from the University will reflect the academic contributions of the individual hired.
