Job Description
Position Overview

Our organization is actively seeking a Vascular Neurologist to join our expanding cerebrovascular team, focusing on a research career development pathway. This role will integrate into a network of specialized academic physicians, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers, delivering exceptional care across our health system, which encompasses a comprehensive stroke center, a thrombectomy-capable stroke center, a primary stroke center, and six acute stroke-ready hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical care for complex cerebrovascular patients both in-person and through telestroke services.
  • Engage in a robust telemedicine network, ensuring integrated inpatient care and emergency stroke consultations throughout our health network.
  • Collaborate with neurocritical care specialists, cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, and neuro-interventionalists to enhance patient care across the continuum.
  • Lead innovative quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing patient care and exploring new healthcare delivery models.
  • Incorporate educational opportunities into clinical practice, mentoring trainees including stroke fellows, neurocritical care fellows, residents, and medical students.
Research Development

During the designated research time, faculty members will:

  • Complete relevant coursework at the University of Minnesota's esteemed School of Public Health, focusing on methodology and grant-writing, with encouragement to pursue a Master's Degree in clinical research, supported by the Stroke Program.
  • Engage in self-directed research projects under mentorship, aiming for future grant submissions.
  • Have the chance to lead significant clinical trials at local, national, and international levels.
  • Explore additional opportunities for research, teaching, and leadership based on qualifications.
Working Conditions

This position is structured as a three-year track designed for those aspiring to become clinician scientists, mirroring an NIH career development award. The first year includes 50% protected time for research, while the second and third years offer at least 25% protected time, adaptable based on the applicant's career aspirations and any internal funding acquired during the first year.

What We Offer
  • Comprehensive academic support, including statistical assistance, research mentorship, and access to dedicated stroke research databases.
  • As a regional coordinating center for the NIH Stroke Network, we have a well-established clinical research framework and are leading enrollers in several pivotal phase-III clinical stroke trials.
  • A strong emphasis on education, with significant conference and didactic time allocated for training three vascular neurology fellows annually, alongside residents, medical students, and stroke research fellows.
  • A transition to a shift model for our stroke program, significantly reducing overnight call responsibilities, reflecting our commitment to a sustainable and positive work environment.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that promotes overall well-being.
  • Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess a medical degree, having completed an ACGME-accredited neurology residency and a vascular neurology fellowship. A strong commitment to educating trainees and contributing to clinical research is essential. While prior telestroke experience is not mandatory, a keen interest in telemedicine and a collaborative approach to addressing cerebrovascular patient needs is expected. Additional qualifications include:

  • A current or eligible unrestricted Minnesota State Medical License.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible status; if not yet certified, there is an expectation to achieve certification within two years of hire.
  • Support for qualified J1 applicants.
Compensation and Benefits

This role is jointly employed by our organization and the University of Minnesota. The total salary is competitive and aligned with AAMC salary benchmarks, with a clinical salary based on clinical responsibilities provided through our organization. The base salary range for this position is $218,757 - $344,326, depending on experience, qualifications, and clinical full-time equivalent (cFTE). The salary from the University will reflect the academic contributions of the individual hired.

  • Generous 401K employer contributions.
  • A well-being program that includes an annual spending allowance, peer coaching, counseling, and concierge services.
  • Funding for continuing medical education (CME), licensing, board certification, and DEA fees.
  • Malpractice insurance coverage.
  • As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
  • A comprehensive benefits package featuring low-cost medical, dental, and pharmacy plans, among other offerings.
Application Process

Interested candidates should submit an application for the academic component of this position through the organization's employment portal.
