About the Opportunity

We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and mission-driven Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to join an innovative Sobering & Deflection Center in Portland, Oregon.

This program serves individuals experiencing intoxication, substance use crises, behavioral health challenges, homelessness, and co-occurring mental health conditions in a structured, supportive, non-hospital environment focused on stabilization and recovery support.

As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and alongside a multidisciplinary care team to provide direct support, behavioral monitoring, crisis intervention, and therapeutic engagement for vulnerable populations in crisis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and support to behavioral health patients under the direction of an RN
  • Maintain safety and structure within the assigned unit
  • Monitor patient behaviors and report concerns appropriately
  • Identify, address, and elevate safety concerns as needed
  • Support individuals experiencing behavioral health and substance use crises
  • Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques when necessary
  • Assist with maintaining a calm, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical emergencies
  • Support clients through sobering and stabilization processes within scope


Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 6 months of healthcare-related experience


Preferred

  • Minimum of six months of recovery from substance use
  • Experience in behavioral health, crisis intervention, substance use treatment, or community-based care settings
  • CPI certification or de-escalation training preferred
  • Familiarity with Title 36 or similar behavioral health statutes preferred
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-acuity environments

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
