About the Opportunity
We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and mission-driven Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to join an innovative Sobering & Deflection Center in Portland, Oregon.
This program serves individuals experiencing intoxication, substance use crises, behavioral health challenges, homelessness, and co-occurring mental health conditions in a structured, supportive, non-hospital environment focused on stabilization and recovery support.
As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and alongside a multidisciplinary care team to provide direct support, behavioral monitoring, crisis intervention, and therapeutic engagement for vulnerable populations in crisis.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and support to behavioral health patients under the direction of an RN
- Maintain safety and structure within the assigned unit
- Monitor patient behaviors and report concerns appropriately
- Identify, address, and elevate safety concerns as needed
- Support individuals experiencing behavioral health and substance use crises
- Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques when necessary
- Assist with maintaining a calm, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
- Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical emergencies
- Support clients through sobering and stabilization processes within scope
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 6 months of healthcare-related experience
Preferred
- Minimum of six months of recovery from substance use
- Experience in behavioral health, crisis intervention, substance use treatment, or community-based care settings
- CPI certification or de-escalation training preferred
- Familiarity with Title 36 or similar behavioral health statutes preferred
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-acuity environments
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
