SUMMARY:
The Quality Assurance Coordinator plays a vital role in upholding plant quality systems by collaborating with facility leadership, driving continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor, and maintaining audit-ready documentation. This hands-on position conducts floor inspections, coaches team members on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and organizes essential quality records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate closely with facility leadership to execute and support quality initiatives directly on the production floor.
Conduct routine inspections across production and sanitation operations to verify adherence to food safety standards, GMPs, and SOPs.
Perform real-time coaching and observations during sanitation cycles to ensure proper cleaning protocols and chemical usage.
Update, organize, and maintain quality system documentation, facility policies, and operational work instructions.
Manage administrative quality tasks, including archiving outdated documents, publishing approved revisions, and building accessible reference binders for plant team members.
Support Safe Quality Food (SQF) program compliance, sanitation verification, and audit readiness for customer and regulatory reviews.
Investigate quality deviations, assist with root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to maintain product consistency.
Respond promptly to internal food safety or product quality concerns raised by production teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific field required (prior relevant experience considered if currently pursuing a degree); Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Minimum 1 year of related experience in a food processing environment (dairy manufacturing experience is a strong plus).
Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and food safety principles (SQF or PCQI familiarity is desirable).
Highly organized with strong administrative skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency and document control management.
Excellent communication and coaching skills to effectively train team members and partner with operations leadership.
Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) are a plus but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regularly required to walk, stand, reach, bend, and move between the quality office and production areas.
Regularly lift and move quality supplies, testing samples, or document binders weighing up to 40 lbs.
Work includes time spent in active dairy processing areas with exposure to cold or warm plant temperatures, moving equipment, and sanitation chemicals (appropriate PPE provided).
