TRANSPORTATION MANAGER -- Suffolk, VAThe Transportation Manager will lead and oversee all transportation operations within a fast-paced distribution environment. This position is responsible for managing daily transportation activities, developing and leading transportation teams, ensuring compliance with DOT and safety regulations, optimizing routing and fleet performance, and maintaining strong customer service standards. The Transportation Manager will oversee a large workforce in a 24/7 operation and play a critical role in achieving operational, financial, and safety objectives.
In This Role, You’ll:- Plan, direct, and oversee day-to-day transportation operations, including the supervision of transportation supervisors and administrative staff, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and timely service delivery.
- Establish departmental goals and performance expectations; monitor and evaluate results to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
- Recruit, train, coach, develop, and evaluate transportation personnel in partnership with Human Resources.
- Direct routing, staffing, and equipment scheduling activities to meet operational KPIs and customer expectations.
- Coordinate fleet repairs and preventive maintenance programs with service providers to maximize equipment availability and ensure compliance with DOT, federal, state, and company safety regulations.
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets and operating costs to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
- Analyze transportation needs and recommend equipment specifications, procurement strategies, and capital investments.
- Resolve transportation, delivery, and customer service issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- 3-6 years of progressive transportation, logistics, fleet management, or distribution experience.
Prior supervisory or management experience leading transportation teams required. - Experience managing operations in a distribution, warehousing, or food service environment preferred.
The Schedule & Setting:- Full-time, on-site supervisory role in a temperature-controlled warehouse
- Supports a 24/7 operation with flexibility required for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Leads a large-scale transportation team focused on safety, reliability, and service
- Days/Flexible for business needs
