Registered Nurse Acute Care Hospital
Location: Columbia, Missouri and Joplin, Missouri
Salary Range: $50.00 Hourly
Job Summary
A Registered Nurse (RN) in an acute care hospital provides comprehensive, patient-centered
nursing care to individuals with acute and complex medical or surgical conditions. The RN is
responsible for assessing patients, developing and implementing individualized care plans,
administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with
the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized nursing care
plans.
Monitor patients' physical and emotional conditions, recognizing and responding
promptly to changes in clinical status.
Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and other prescribed
treatments safely and accurately.
Coordinate and deliver nursing care in accordance with physician orders, hospital
policies, and evidence-based practice.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications,
discharge instructions, and health promotion.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic health record
(EHR).
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists,
case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient
care.
Operate and monitor medical equipment such as cardiac monitors, infusion pumps,
and oxygen delivery systems.
Implement infection prevention and patient safety protocols to reduce
healthcare-associated risks.
Respond effectively to medical emergencies, including rapid response and code
situations.
Advocate for patients' rights, privacy, dignity, and informed decision-making.
Supervise and delegate appropriate tasks to licensed practical nurses (LPNs), nursing
assistants, and support staff.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and professional
development activities.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and nursing
practice guidelines.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor
of Science in Nursing preferred).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular
Life Support) required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities.
Proficiency in electronic health record documentation.
Ability to prioritize multiple patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Knowledge of infection control, medication safety, and patient-centered care
principles.
Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions during emergencies.
Work Environment
Requires standing, walking, lifting, and assisting with patient mobility throughout the
shift.
May involve rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, night shifts, and on-call
responsibilities.
