Job Description
SEARHC (SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium) is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the team at Ethel Lund Medical Center in beautiful Juneau, Alaska. SEARHC is a non-profit healthcare consortium dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of Southeast Alaska communities while supporting professional development and long-term career growth for its employees.
The Medical Assistant will support clinic operations by assisting providers with patient care, documentation, procedures, specimen collection, immunizations, and clinical support activities while ensuring excellent patient care and smooth clinic workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately collect and document patient information within EMR systems
- Maintain organized patient records and ensure medical documentation accuracy
- Assist providers with routine exams, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries
- Prepare equipment and supplies for patient care procedures
- Administer immunizations and injections as ordered by providers
- Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following proper protocols
- Monitor patients and report changes in condition or safety concerns appropriately
- Assist with radiology exams if competencies are met
- Support clinic nurses and providers with patient care duties
- Maintain efficient clinic workflow and patient scheduling coordination
- Provide cross-coverage support for peers and clinics when needed
- Participate in staff meetings, departmental initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required
Alternative Qualifications Accepted:
- EMT III Current Alaska Certification OR
- Current Alaska Paramedic Certification OR
- Nursing Degree from an accredited institution may substitute the above requirements
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working in a healthcare or clinic setting preferred
- Familiarity with EMR systems and medical terminology preferred
- Experience with patient care, immunizations, specimen collection, and clinical workflow
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to operate medical equipment including:
- Blood Pressure Cuff
- Pulse Oximeter
- EKG Machine
- Cardiac Monitor
- Manual Defibrillator
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations
- Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
