Role Description The Group Account Director is a full-time, hybrid role based in San Diego, CA, with flexibility for partial work from home. The Group Account Director is a senior leader in Client Services. You'll own the strategy and execution of every project across your client portfolio, lead a team of account professionals, and serve as the senior point of contact for your clients. You'll work directly with our Chief Client Officer and help raise the bar for the entire Client Services team.

We're looking for someone proactive and curious who is as good at the strategy as they are at the follow-through. We're a small team, which means senior people do real work, your ideas get heard, and you can see the effect of what you build.

What you will do:

Own your accounts

  • Oversee the execution, analysis, and ongoing optimization of all projects across your clients, keeping the work aligned with their goals and our standards

  • Give strategic feedback on team deliverables and keep the quality and accuracy bar high

  • Build long-term, trust-based client relationships that drive satisfaction, retention, and growth

  • Keep your accounts financially healthy by partnering with your team on scoping, budget management, and final project reconciliations

  • Stay current on industry trends, competitive threats, and client opportunities

  • Work closely with Project Management to set realistic timelines, balance competing priorities, and hit deadlines

  • Contribute to new business, including ideation, research, and proposals

  • Keep our leadership team informed on account health, team dynamics, and where we can improve

Lead your team

  • Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and evaluate your direct reports

  • Step in with hands-on support when projects hit snags, removing obstacles and getting your team the resources they need

  • Spot your high performers and grow them through stretch assignments and clear paths to promotion

  • Keep growing your own leadership skills and model that for your team

  • Partner with the VP of Client Services on training that strengthens the whole department

What we expect:

  • Deliver on time. Internal and client-facing work goes out when promised. If a delay is coming, you flag it early with a plan.

  • Communicate before you're asked. You surface updates, risks, and changes to clients, your team, and partners without waiting to be chased.

  • Be reliably present. Clients and teammates should be able to count on you being available and responsive during core working hours.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (advanced degree a plus)

  • 5+ years of agency experience in a fast-paced, client-centered environment, including at least 2 years in a unit leadership or senior role managing direct reports

  • A strong track record of leading project teams and delivering on time and within budget

  • Experience in medical, pharmaceutical, or science-related fields is a significant advantage. A real willingness to learn the industry and your clients is required

  • Proven ability to build strong client partnerships and teach others to do the same

  • Strategic thinking, plus the organization and attention to detail to execute

  • Clear, confident communication in writing, in conversation, and in presentations, including explaining complex topics to different audiences

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), comfort with Zoom and Teams, and experience with project management software

  • A positive, respectful, professional presence with clients and colleagues

  • Willingness to travel for client visits and industry events

What we bring:

  • Salary Range: $135,000 - $175,000 depending on depth and breadth of experience at either Account Director or Group Account Director level

  • Hybrid work schedule with a requirement of 8 days per month

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision (highly subsidized)

  • 401k Safe Harbor Account with 100% matching at 3% plus additional Roth IRA matching

  • Healthcare and Dependent care FSA

  • Employer paid Voluntary Life & AD&D insurance, STD, LTD

  • EAP

  • $100/mo phone/internet subsidy

  • ClassPass membership
