Accounting Manager – SOX

A publicly traded, global industrial organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to support SOX compliance, technical accounting, and process improvement across its corporate and operational finance teams.

This role serves as a key liaison between corporate accounting, internal controls, and site-level finance teams. The ideal candidate combines a strong technical accounting foundation with a practical understanding of business operations and the ability to translate accounting policies into effective, standardized processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee SOX compliance activities across operational locations, ensuring control owners understand documentation requirements and execute controls effectively.

  • Partner with internal audit and controls teams to address control deficiencies, coordinate remediation plans, and monitor progress through resolution.

  • Collaborate with corporate accounting to implement new accounting policies and translate technical guidance into practical operating procedures.

  • Standardize accounting and financial reporting processes across manufacturing, distribution, and other operating locations.

  • Improve balance sheet reconciliation workflows, journal entry processes, and supporting documentation standards.

  • Provide technical accounting guidance on revenue recognition, customer rebates and discounts, lease accounting, capital expenditures, and inventory costing.

  • Evaluate existing workflows to identify inefficiencies, strengthen internal controls, and reduce unnecessary administrative work.

  • Work closely with operational finance leaders and plant management to balance accounting compliance with business needs.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reporting accuracy, consistency, and operational efficiency.

  • Promote compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and applicable safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Active U.S. CPA license required.

  • 5–8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, public accounting, audit, or internal controls.

  • Big Four or top national public accounting firm experience in assurance or audit required.

  • Experience auditing publicly traded companies, ideally within manufacturing, industrial products, building materials, or distribution.

  • Demonstrated experience managing SOX compliance, evaluating internal controls, and remediating control deficiencies.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition, leases, inventory, and property, plant, and equipment.

  • Experience interpreting accounting policies and applying technical accounting guidance to operational business scenarios.

  • Familiarity with enterprise ERP and financial reporting systems; SAP experience is beneficial.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for financial analysis.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong communicator who can work effectively with both corporate accounting leadership and operational finance teams.

  • Able to explain complex accounting requirements in clear, actionable terms.

  • Confident challenging existing processes and accounting decisions when necessary.

  • Skilled at building consensus among stakeholders with competing priorities.

  • Practical, solutions-oriented, and comfortable navigating a complex, multi-location organization.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment, professional integrity, and strong project management skills.
