Our client, an advanced manufacturing organization, is seeking a Facilities/Operations Engineer to keep its production environment safe, compliant, and running reliably. This hands-on role oversees the building systems and infrastructure behind metal additive manufacturing, precision machining, heat treatment, and inspection operations. You will lead facility projects from concept to completion and act as the main liaison with contractors, utilities, and inspectors.

Facilities/Operations Engineer Responsibilities

  • Plan, maintain, and upgrade core building and production support systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, UPS, compressed air, process cooling, plumbing, and fire protection.

  • Lead facility projects such as expansions, layout changes, and equipment upgrades, managing scope, budget, schedule, and contractor performance.

  • Direct the installation, relocation, and utility hookup of production equipment, including metal 3D printers, CNC machines, furnaces, and inspection tools.

  • Build and manage a preventive maintenance program for facility systems and critical infrastructure to maximize uptime.

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, fire code, and environmental regulations, and support EHS audits and inspections.

  • Ensure combustible metal dust safety through proper ventilation and dust collection.

  • Manage inert gas systems (argon and nitrogen), including supply, distribution, monitoring, and safe storage.

  • Control temperature and humidity in sensitive areas, including metal powder storage and handling spaces.

  • Serve as the primary contact for outside contractors, vendors, utilities, and inspectors, and secure required permits.

  • Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and capital expenditure requests for leadership review.

  • Support physical security and access control for restricted areas in line with ITAR and CMMC requirements.

  • Respond to facility emergencies and equipment outages, and participate in an on-call rotation.

  • Track energy and utility usage to identify cost savings and efficiency improvements.

  • Keep facility drawings, equipment records, and system documentation accurate and current.

Facilities/Operations Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Facilities Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3+ years of facilities engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems (including 480V three-phase power), compressed air, UPS, and mechanical systems.

  • Proven experience managing facility projects and outside contractors from scope through completion.

  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, and local building and fire codes.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings.

  • Proficiency with design software and Microsoft Office, plus the ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands.

  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) due to export control requirements.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, metal powders, and inert gases while wearing required PPE, to climb ladders and work at heights or in confined spaces, to lift up to 50 pounds, and to work occasional after-hours or weekend shifts.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting metal additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, or other advanced manufacturing operations.

  • Knowledge of NFPA 484 and NFPA 652, and experience with inert gas systems, dust collection, and environmental controls.

  • Experience in an ITAR-regulated or defense manufacturing environment.

  • PE license or CPE credential, and experience with a CMMS.
