Mechanical Engineering Specialist
Oak Ridge, Tennessee
Work on technology that could change the future of nuclear energy.
You’ll join a team developing patented, advanced laser technology designed to transform uranium enrichment and support the next generation of nuclear reactors. This is a rare opportunity to be one of a select group of engineers working on this technology, with the chance to shape complex mechanical systems from initial concept through to production.
You’ll take ownership of challenging engineering projects, combining mechanical design, fluid dynamics, and hands-on fabrication to bring pioneering technology to life. With the nuclear energy industry evolving rapidly, you’ll gain experience at the forefront of an emerging field while contributing to technology with the potential for lasting global impact.
Alongside health insurance and a 401(k), you’ll also receive a relocation bonus if required, making this an exciting opportunity to take the next step in your career.
What you’ll do
Lead the design and development of gas separation assemblies and flow manifolds for advanced isotope enrichment systems, solving complex mechanical engineering challenges.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings, turning innovative concepts into practical, production-ready designs.
Perform CFD analysis and specify materials to optimise system performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Integrate bespoke, in-house designs with commercial equipment, leading fabrication and assembly from prototype through to production.
What you’ll need
A B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
10+ years of mechanical design and engineering experience, ideally involving high-vacuum systems, gas dynamics, or complex fluid-handling equipment.
Strong experience in 3D CAD modelling, CFD analysis, and taking mechanical designs from concept through fabrication and assembly.
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.
