Duties:

• Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews of insanity acquittees.


• Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews related to the patient’s fitness to proceed to trial.


• Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews related to the patient's need for guardianship.


• Studies, evaluates, diagnoses, and treats diseases/disorders of the mind in accord with the standard of care, Patient’s Bill of Rights, TJC standards, and legal/judicial mandates


• Takes the lead, formulating the treatment plan, which includes the discharge plan and the implementation with other members of the collaborative treatment team in accord with the Patient’s Bill of Rights and the standard of care.


• Complies with judicial mandates in accordance with NJ Statutes reflecting The Patient’s Bill of Rights, such as the review of the records of patients for prescribing of psychotropic medication, freedom from unnecessary physical restraint and isolation, emergency administration of medication, administration of medication over objection, and so forth.


• Organizes data concerning patients’ families, personal medical and psychiatric history, onset of symptoms, source of referral, emotional reactions and behavior, and intellectual functions.


• Is responsible for ensuring that psychiatric treatment complies with TJC standards, other accreditation bodies' standards, and legal or judicial mandates.
