Vice President of Tax

About the Role

A CPG company in Manhattan is seeking a VP of Tax to build out the tax function. This individual will lead the company’s domestic and international income tax function, overseeing tax planning, compliance, tax accounting, transfer pricing, and financial reporting under ASC 740. Additionally, you will partner closely with Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and international business leaders to optimize tax strategies, manage risk, support business transactions, and improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax processes. The role will also oversee external tax service providers, support mergers and acquisitions, and drive continuous improvement across the tax function.

Responsibilities

Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including ASC 740 calculations, tax disclosures, and related financial statement reporting.


• Partner with FP&A and Treasury on tax forecasting, cash tax projections, and financial close activities.


• Maintain effective internal controls, account reconciliations, and tax reporting processes.


• Coordinate with external auditors and respond to tax accounting inquiries from senior management and other stakeholders.

Tax Planning & Strategy

• Develop and implement domestic and international tax strategies to optimize cash taxes and the effective tax rate.


• Identify tax incentives, manage tax attributes, and assess the impact of new tax legislation and regulatory developments.


• Partner with Finance, Legal, and Business Development on strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and other significant transactions.


• Lead initiatives involving legal entity rationalization and tax process improvements.

Tax Compliance & Risk Management

• Oversee global income tax compliance, including tax return preparation and filing, estimated payments, and adherence to reporting deadlines.


• Manage tax audits, examinations, notices, and related inquiries across applicable jurisdictions.


• Ensure compliance with foreign withholding tax and international reporting requirements.


• Monitor evolving domestic and international tax regulations, including OECD Pillar Two requirements.

Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Transactions

• Oversee global transfer pricing policies, documentation, analyses, and related tax accounting entries.


• Partner with Treasury and international finance teams to manage intercompany balances and subsidiary funding.


• Ensure intercompany transactions and legal entity structures are appropriately documented and managed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; master’s degree in Taxation preferred.


• CPA strongly preferred.


• 12+ years of relevant tax experience, including a combination of public accounting and corporate tax leadership.


• Extensive knowledge of domestic and international taxation, including ASC 740, tax compliance, tax planning, and transfer pricing.


• Prior experience in the retail, consumer products, or a related industry preferred.
