Job Description

KMAC is hiring an experienced, hands-on mechanic to maintain and repair the equipment and vehicles that keep our crews working. We’re looking for someone with strong troubleshooting skills who can make dependable repairs, manage maintenance needs, and learn specialized equipment.

Our fleet includes gypsum placer pumps, a SmartBatch pump system, Schwing concrete pumps, Bobcat skid steers, and company vehicles. This position is primarily based at our Charlotte shop, with occasional field visits to support crews and address equipment issues.

What you’ll do

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues across our equipment and vehicle fleet.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled service.

  • Troubleshoot pump and batching systems and repair or replace worn components.

  • Identify developing problems before they cause breakdowns.

  • Coordinate with field crews and management to prioritize repairs and reduce downtime.

  • Maintain service records and identify parts needed for repairs.

  • Follow safe maintenance procedures and keep work areas organized.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience repairing construction equipment, diesel equipment, pumps, or fleet vehicles.

  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and read service manuals and wiring diagrams.

  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and follow repairs through to completion.

  • Dependability, attention to detail, and clear communication.

  • Willingness to learn our specialized pump and batching equipment.

Preferred experience

  • Gypsum placer pumps, SmartBatch systems, or Schwing concrete pumps.

  • Bobcat skid steers or comparable construction equipment.

  • Welding and fabrication.

We expect most candidates to learn our specialized pumps on the job. Strong equipment repair experience and sound troubleshooting skills provide a solid foundation for this role.

Compensation and benefits

  • Annual base salary of $60,000–$80,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Higher base compensation considered for candidates with directly relevant pump repair experience.

  • Enrollment in our annual bonus program.

  • Medical insurance with KMAC paying 50% of the premium.

  • Optional supplemental insurance.

  • 401(k) with a 4% company match.

  • Two weeks (10 days) of paid time off.

  • Five additional paid sick days.

  • Company-recognized paid holidays.

  • Additional paid time off based on length of service, in accordance with KMAC’s policy for salaried employees.

Schedule and work setting

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturday work and flexible hours.

  • Primarily shop-based in Charlotte, with occasional field visits.

  • Personal tools are a plus but are not required.
