Position Overview
The R&D Technician will support innovation and customer projects within the Materials Test Laboratory. The role involves performing qualitative and quantitative testing, operating laboratory equipment, analyzing test data, and communicating findings to project teams.
Initial training will be provided under direct supervision. Safety is a top priority, and the technician will be expected to follow safe work practices and report any safety concerns to management.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests.
• Operate and calibrate laboratory testing equipment under supervision.
• Learn and apply new testing methods to support materials science projects.
• Use Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets to compile, organize, and analyze test data.
• Prepare reports and communicate testing results and findings to project requesters.
• Collaborate with team members on larger testing and R&D projects.
• Follow established safety procedures when working in laboratory, pilot plant, and production environments.
• Maintain accurate testing and documentation records.
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma required.
• Associate Degree or technical training preferred.
• 0–2+ years of experience in laboratory testing or manufacturing.
• Technical or mechanical background.
• Ability to operate and calibrate laboratory or testing equipment.
• Basic computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to prepare clear technical reports and documentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and technical curiosity.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Comfortable working in laboratory, pilot plant, and production environments.
• Ability to lift and carry samples weighing up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Laboratory testing experience, particularly involving machines, materials, or equipment testing.
• Experience in the paper and packaging industry.
• Familiarity with papermaking and paperboard products.
• Manufacturing or materials testing experience.
