Key responsibilities

  • Own the investment risk framework, including risk appetite, limits and escalation policy across all funds and strategies.
  • Lead independent monitoring of market, liquidity, credit, counterparty and concentration risk, and challenge portfolio managers on exposures and sizing.
  • Review new strategies, instruments and fund launches for risk and limit implications.
  • Present to the risk committee, Investment Committee and board, and report directly to the CRO.
  • Lead investor and consultant due diligence responses on risk management, and contribute risk data to Form PF and AIFMD Annex IV filings.
  • Partner with Operations, Valuation, Treasury and Compliance on counterparty exposure, valuation challenge and risk events.
  • Oversee risk systems and data, including vendor platforms and in-house analytics.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or a related quantitative field.
  • 10–15 years in investment or market risk at a hedge fund, alternative asset manager, multi-manager platform or sell-side risk function.
  • Deep knowledge of risk in asset classes common to alternatives: credit, equities, rates, derivatives and private or illiquid assets.
  • Expert command of VaR, stress testing, factor models and liquidity risk methodology.
  • At least 3 years managing people.

Preferred qualifications and attributes

  • Advanced degree, or a CFA, FRM or PRM designation.
  • Exposure to private credit, structured credit or other Level 3 valuations.
  • Familiarity with SEC adviser rules, Form PF and investor operational due diligence expectations.
  • Experience building or upgrading a risk function at a growing manager.
