Vice President – Fixed Income Principal Risk

Our client, a US Investment Bank, is seeking a Vice President, Fixed Income Risk to partner with the firm's growing principal businesses, with a particular focus on structured products and securitized credit.

The role will initially focus predominantly on the firm's principal fixed income businesses and is expected to expand in scope as those businesses evolve over the next 3–5 years.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and assess risk across principal fixed income positions and portfolios


• Laisse with US bank team that runs daily VaR, stress scenarios, sensitivities, and portfolio-level exposures


• Evaluate the risk implications of proposed and executed trades


• Partner closely with principal trading, Market Risk, and Credit Risk teams


• Challenge positions and strategies where risk is excessive, poorly understood, or inconsistent with the firm's risk appetite


• Develop and analyze stress scenarios and model portfolios across different market environments


• Work through complex risk questions with traders and the broader business, translating market moves into actionable risk assessments


• Provide senior management with clear perspectives on portfolio risk, concentrations, and potential downside

Product Expertise

The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience across structured and securitized fixed income, including several of the following:

• CMOs


• Spec Pools


• TBA


• CMBS


• ABS


• Other structured / mortgage-backed products

Candidate Profile

• 3–7 years of relevant experience in fixed income risk, market risk, or trading


• Strong understanding of structured products and securitized credit


• Hands-on experience with VaR, stress testing, portfolio analytics, and risk modeling


• Comfortable working directly with traders and principal businesses


• Strong analytical judgment and ability to understand the risk of individual trades as well as portfolios


• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to challenge the business when appropriate


• Commercially minded, collaborative, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced trading environment
