Construction Survey Computer (CAD)

Job description:

J2 is seeking a Construction Survey Computer(CAD) to support our Land Survey team in both office and field settings. Working under the direction of the Survey Manager, this role transforms survey field data into accurate maps, plans, and other technical deliverables. It is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional who wants to build strong surveying and CAD skills while contributing to a collaborative project team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare survey drawings, maps, layouts, arrangements, and flow sheets using field data, sketches, existing utility mapping, and written or verbal direction.


• Transform raw field data from survey crews into final maps and plans using Carlson software.


• Import electronic field notes and upload, download, and reduce data-collector files as needed.


• Prepare surfaces, finalize base maps, and complete revisions based on redlines while verifying quantities and accuracy.


• Assist with construction stakeout layout and preparation of cut sheets.


• Set up and maintain drawing files in accordance with company drafting standards and project requirements.


• Accurately execute markups and support the Project Surveyor, Survey Party Chief, Survey Manager, engineers, and other senior team members.


• Help prepare field crews and equipment for survey assignments.


• Support boundary, ALTA/NSPS land title, topographic, location, and as-built surveys, as well as construction stakeout, GPS, deed research, photogrammetric control, and hydraulic survey work.


• Communicate with crew members and supervisors to help keep projects on schedule and within budget.


• Maintain clean, legible field notes and proper project documentation.


• Follow company, client, local, state, and federal safety requirements, including proper use and care of personal protective equipment.


• Help maintain, clean, and care for survey vehicles, equipment, and other company property.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Five years of experience in the land surveying industry.


• Bachelors’ of Science in geographic information systems (GIS) or a related field preferred.


• Working knowledge of CAD concepts and an interest in developing proficiency with Carlson and other software used by J2.


• Basic understanding of—or willingness to learn—survey equipment, geometry, field procedures, and data collection.


• Ability to interpret field data, sketches, markups, and written and verbal instructions with attention to detail.


• Strong organization, time-management, problem-solving, and communication skills.


• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative office and field team.
