Mercy Hospital’s 2M Med/Surg & Surgical Care Unit provides care to diverse populations of surgical and medical/telemetry patients. Surgical patients in this unit have typically undergone abdominal surgery or hysterectomy and have drains or need wound care. There are also many cardiac and stroke patients on this high-acuity floor. 2M is an inclusive unit that fosters respect, collaboration and support among all caregivers and prioritizes open communication to ensure that everyone feels heard and valued. Your goal as an RN on the team will be advancing recovery to discharge as quickly as possible, ensuring safety for our patients. 2M also encourages RNs to obtain med/surg certification and promotes growth into leadership opportunities.
A caregiver in this position works PT nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
One year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting OR licensed military RN experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Minimum hourly: $35.50
Maximum hourly: $55.60
