Overview
Superior Rigging & Erecting is seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer to join our executive leadership team and help guide the organization through its next phase of growth.
This is a true enterprise-level CFO opportunity. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, President, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team while providing strong financial leadership and discipline across the organization.
We need a CFO who understands the business beyond accounting-someone who can connect projects, labor, equipment, backlog, job costing, WIP, billing, capital investment, and operational performance to profitability, cash flow, risk, and long-term enterprise value.
The CFO will lead Finance and Accounting and have executive responsibility for financial strategy, planning and analysis, construction accounting, WIP and job costing, budgeting and forecasting, treasury, working capital, banking, surety and bonding, capital planning, financial controls, and development of the Finance organization.
What You Will Lead
- Serve as the senior financial advisor to the CEO, President, Board, and executive leadership team.
- Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Provide executive oversight of construction accounting, WIP, job costing, cost-to-complete forecasting, and revenue recognition.
- Partner with Operations and Project Management to understand project profitability, margin trends, labor productivity, equipment costs, billing, and financial risk.
- Identify project margin deterioration and other financial risks early enough for leadership intervention.
- Lead cash-flow forecasting, treasury, working-capital management, billing and collection discipline, and banking relationships.
- Maintain and strengthen surety, bonding, lending, and other key financial relationships.
- Evaluate major capital investments involving cranes, fleet, fabrication equipment, facilities, technology, and other operating assets.
- Understand and evaluate the financial impact of union and non-union labor, including wage structures, fringe benefits, CBAs, and other labor obligations.
- Establish strong financial controls, reporting, data integrity, and segregation of duties.
- Improve financial systems, automation, reporting, and scalability.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing Finance and Accounting organization.
- Provide leadership with actionable insight-not simply historical financial reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 12+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- 5+ years as a CFO, Divisional CFO, Vice President of Finance, or comparable senior financial executive within a complex operating organization.
- Demonstrated leadership of Finance and Accounting functions.
- Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, working capital, treasury, financial reporting, internal controls, and capital planning.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience partnering directly with CEOs, presidents, boards, owners, and senior operating leaders.
- Strong executive presence and the confidence to constructively challenge business assumptions.
- Demonstrated success improving financial performance, systems, controls, processes, or organizational capability.
Preferred Industry Background
Direct construction experience is strongly preferred. We are especially interested in candidates with senior financial leadership experience in:
- Construction or specialty contracting
- Structural steel
- Crane, rigging, or heavy equipment
- Manufacturing or fabrication
- Industrial services
- Infrastructure
- Engineering
- Transportation
- Other project-based, labor-intensive, and capital-intensive businesses
Candidates without direct construction experience should demonstrate substantial experience in a similarly complex operating environment involving project costing, significant labor costs, capital assets, working capital, and operational financial management.
Strongly Preferred Experience
- CPA; MBA or CMA also valued
- Construction accounting
- WIP, job costing, cost-to-complete forecasting, backlog, retainage, underbilling's, overbilling's, and project margin
- Union workforce and CBA experience
- Surety and bonding relationships
- Multi-state and multi-entity operations
- Equipment-intensive operations and capital allocation
- Manufacturing or fabrication cost accounting
- M&A and business integration
- ERP or financial-system transformation
- Privately held or entrepreneurial growth organizations
The CFO We Need
We are looking for an executive who can tell leadership not only what happened financially, but:
- Why it happened
- Where margin is being gained or lost
- Whether project forecasts are credible
- Where cash and working capital are constrained
- Whether capital is being deployed effectively
- What financial or operational risks are developing
- What leadership should do next
The right CFO will be comfortable in the Board room, the executive meeting, and the operating environment. This individual will understand how the business actually works and will help build the financial discipline, visibility, and organizational capability necessary to support continued growth.
