Job Description
OVERVIEW:

Redeemer Valley Farm encompasses an 80 member community garden, a small Goat micro dairy along with a farm market garden. The Farm practices regenerative agriculture. As a Farm community we believe regeneration begins at the roots - in the soil and community and in consciousness. It is a daily invitation to each of us to live in deeper relationship to the care of Earth and each other which also is consistent with the Redeemer Sisters mission.

SUMMARY OF JOB:

This is a full-time opportunity to work at Redeemer Valley Farm, a ministry of the Sisters of the Redeemer in Huntingdon Valley, PA

A Livestock caregiver on this regenerative farm would oversee daily livestock care in collaboration with the Farm/Dairy Coordinator, including flock of chickens, facility upkeep, and manure management to actively restore soil health, enhance local biodiversity, and mimic natural ecological cycles.

Core responsibilities:

*Herd Health and Husbandry:

Manage daily care, nutrition, hoof trimming, vaccinations, and structural healthcare for herd of dairy goats following animal welfare and safety guidelines. Care of chickens and coop house for healthy production of eggs which are sold at the weekly market.

*Milking & Creamery Prep:

Milk goats, clean and sanitize daily milking operations, maintaining sanitation standards for raw and pasteurized milk production and assist in cheese production when necessary.

*Regenerative Pasture Management:

Create intensive rotational grazing schedules to simulate, forage growth, build, topsoil, and prevent pasture degradation.

*Kidding and Breeding Management:

Co-facilitate with dairy leader in breeding season and provide hands-on care during kidding, including neonatal care and kid rearing.

*Record Keeping:

Track comprehensive data on Milk yield, breeding, lineages, health, interventions, and rotational grazing timelines.

*Facility Upkeep:

Maintain barn cleanliness, predator proof fencing, milking equipment, and composting systems for deep litter bedding. Order and maintain inventory of animal feed, bedding and supplies for all animals.

Works cooperatively with Farm/Dairy Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator.

RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: Minimum 2 to 3 years, livestock management experience, ideally working directly with dairy goats or in a dairy parlor setting

Regenerative mindset: Strong understanding of rotational, grazing principles, soil health, and low stress animal handling

Technical ability: Confidence in operating and troubleshooting mechanical milking systems and portable fencing

Physical stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and work outdoors in all weather conditions

A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the state of PA

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced individual who has demonstrated a significant commitment to the art and craft of sustainable farm management and has a true passion and understanding of the responsibility of growing food for people and building community. Additionally, a deep knowledge and comfort in Organic and sustainable farming practices as well as direct experience managing and delivering multi produce distribution (CSA, Farm market) is essential.

Required Skills
