Ability Beyond is seeking an enthusiastic <strong>Special Olympics Local Coordinator</strong> to lead and grow our Special Olympics program. This role is ideal for <strong>teachers, coaches, athletic directors, recreation professionals, or community leaders</strong> looking to inspire athletes, build connections, and create inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities.</p><h3>What You'll Do</h3><h4>Lead Athlete & Team Success</h4><ul><li>Coordinate practices, training sessions, and competitions</li><li>Support athlete participation in local, regional, and state events</li><li>Recruit and support athletes, coaches, volunteers, and Unified Partners</li><li>Ensure a positive, safe, and engaging experience for all participants</li></ul><h4>Manage Program Operations</h4><ul><li>Serve as the main liaison with Special Olympics Connecticut</li><li>Oversee registrations, medical forms, and competition paperwork</li><li>Coordinate schedules, transportation, equipment, and event logistics</li><li>Maintain accurate records and program compliance</li></ul><h4>Build Community Connections</h4><ul><li>Partner with families, schools, volunteers, and community organizations</li><li>Promote Special Olympics opportunities across Ability Beyond programs</li><li>Communicate event updates and training schedules</li><li>Identify new opportunities for inclusion, recreation, and community engagement</li></ul><h4>Support Program Growth</h4><ul><li>Assist with budget tracking and program planning</li><li>Support fundraising events and community initiatives</li><li>Help expand participation and enhance athlete experiences</li></ul><h3>What We're Looking For</h3><ul><li>Passion for athletics, inclusion, and community involvement</li><li>Strong organization and event coordination skills</li><li>Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities</li><li>Experience in coaching, teaching, athletics, recreation, volunteer management, or human services preferred</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 3 years of related experience; <strong>or</strong></li><li>2 years of college coursework in a related field plus 1 year of related experience</li><li>Valid driver's license required</li><li>Knowledge of Special Olympics programs is a plus</li><li>Must be eligible to become a registered Special Olympics Class A Volunteer</li></ul><p><strong>Why Join Us?</strong></p><p><strong>Help athletes achieve their goals, celebrate victories, and build confidence through the power of sport.</strong> If you're a teacher, coach, or sports enthusiast looking for meaningful part-time work with a flexible schedule, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact in your community.</p>PandoLogic.
