Marine Technical Superintendent - Vessel Performance & Dry Docking

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Technical Superintendent to join a leading maritime transportation organization. This key role involves providing shore-based engineering expertise focused on vessel performance optimization, dry docking management, maintenance efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, proactive analytical ability, and a collaborative spirit to support fleet reliability, operational excellence, and cost control initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze vessel technical performance metrics, including fuel consumption, machinery efficiency, and operational reliability.
  • Evaluate engineering data to develop and recommend strategies for performance improvement and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical, Commercial Operations, HSQE, and vessel management teams to enhance fleet efficiency.
  • Support dry docking projects by reviewing technical specifications, repair scopes, contractor proposals, schedules, and budgets.
  • Review maintenance budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Utilize Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) to ensure maintenance compliance and optimize preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, engineering analyses, budget assessments, and performance improvement recommendations for senior management.
  • Participate in vessel inspections, technical audits, and shipyard visits to ensure compliance and optimize vessel performance.
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts related to Port State Control, RightShip, classification societies, and flag state regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on fleet maintenance, reliability, and engineering best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to vessel personnel and internal stakeholders on engineering matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Prior sailing experience as a Chief Engineer on commercial vessels.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and vessel maintenance practices.
  • Proven experience supporting dry docking projects from planning to execution.
  • Strong understanding of vessel maintenance budgeting and cost management.
  • Hands-on experience with Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
  • Familiarity with marine regulatory standards, including Port State Control, RightShip, and classification society requirements.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ABS NS Enterprise, Bureau Veritas (BV), and other classification societies.
  • Expertise in vessel performance monitoring, fleet engineering analytics, and reliability engineering.
  • Proven track record in maintenance cost optimization, technical audits, root cause analysis, and dry dock project management.
  • Skilled in shipyard coordination and fleet technical support.
  • Proficiency with technical tools such as Microsoft Excel, Data Analysis & Reporting, and technical documentation.
