This position is perfect for an early to mid-career physician-scientist eager to take on greater leadership responsibilities in the development of early-phase trials while also expanding an independent clinical and translational research portfolio.

The selected candidate will be instrumental in guiding our current clinical trial framework, overseeing the design, initiation, and execution of Phase I and first-in-human studies. Additionally, this role will contribute to the strategic enhancement of the Phase I program and deliver exceptional clinical care within a collaborative, mission-oriented academic medical environment. The clinical focus may include thoracic or breast cancers, depending on expertise and program needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Research Leadership & Phase I Program Development:
    • Act as Principal Investigator for Phase I and early-phase clinical trials, including both investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies.
    • Provide scientific and operational guidance for early-phase research infrastructure, including trial development, initiation, and execution.
    • Contribute to the strategic growth and visibility of the Phase I clinical trials program.
    • Develop and enhance a competitive, externally recognized clinical and translational research program with institutional backing.
    • Work closely with translational scientists and multidisciplinary teams to advance first-in-human and biomarker-driven studies.
    • Establish and maintain productive relationships with industry sponsors, cooperative groups, and internal stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with the Neely Center for Clinical Cancer Research to support cooperative group, commercial, and investigator-initiated studies.
  • Clinical Care & Multidisciplinary Leadership:
    • Deliver high-quality clinical care to patients within the candidate's area of expertise.
    • Mentor trainees, junior faculty, and research staff involved in early-phase research.
    • Share inpatient oncology and consult service responsibilities with faculty, including participation in night and weekend coverage with fellows providing primary support.
    • Contribute to the academic mission of the affiliated medical school through teaching and scholarly activities.
Qualifications
  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification or eligibility in Medical Oncology.
  • Preferred subspecialty focus in thoracic or breast cancers.
  • Proven experience as a Principal Investigator on Phase I or early-phase clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated record of academic productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and leadership in clinical trials.
  • Experience or strong interest in leading collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
  • Commitment to an academic career with a focus on early-phase clinical research and program leadership.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
What We Offer
  • A collegial and collaborative academic environment within a growing healthcare system that prioritizes patient care.
  • The chance to take on a leadership role within an expanding Phase I clinical trials program.
  • Robust institutional infrastructure and support for early-phase trials, translational research, and partnerships with industry.
  • Mentorship and resources aimed at facilitating career advancement toward senior leadership positions.
  • The opportunity to practice in Boston, a global center for biomedical research and innovation.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • A supportive atmosphere for academic growth and leadership development.
Compensation

The base salary range for this role is between $255,670 and $331,507 annually. Actual compensation will be determined during the selection process and will consider various factors, including academic rank, relevant experience, education, and internal equity.
