Salary Range:
The compensation for this role is as follows: $330,000-$350,000 for the Assistant Rank and $350,000-$380,000 for the Associate Rank. This position also includes participation in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

The Department of Internal Medicine, specifically the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, is seeking to hire one full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. Faculty members in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional activities, teaching, research, and service to the University and the public. Those in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series will focus on teaching, professional activities, scholarly work, and University/public service.
ExpectationsThis role will primarily focus on delivering exceptional general gastroenterology care and educating medical students, residents, and fellows. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing gastroenterology consultations and endoscopy services at outpatient facilities in the greater Sacramento area, as well as participating in on-call duties at the UC Davis Medical Center. Educational duties will involve supervising consultations and procedures performed by fellows, residents, and medical students, in addition to delivering lectures to various groups.
The GI Division currently comprises 27 faculty members and 4 nurse practitioners, offering services across 5 clinics and 5 ambulatory endoscopy units, with plans for further expansion. The division boasts strong programs in motility, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), advanced endoscopy, and a newly established liver transplant program. Clinical research is supported by the GI Clinical Research Unit, which includes 8 research coordinators and staff managing over 50 studies. The division has a rich history of providing exceptional patient care and medical education, recently expanding its training program to accommodate 12 GI Fellows and 1 Advanced Endoscopy Fellow.
UC Davis Health serves a vast area of 65,000 square miles, encompassing 33 counties and 6 million residents across Northern and Central California. The UC Davis Medical Center is a hospital with over 600 beds, currently undergoing further expansion, including the development of an innovation hub, Aggie Square, and the 14-story California Tower.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in both clinical care and education. Candidates should have expertise in general gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures. An M.D. degree is required, along with Board Certification or eligibility in Gastroenterology. Candidates must also qualify for licensure in California and possess the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
This recruitment is for the assistant/associate rank, and the successful hire will be placed at that rank, irrespective of the candidate's qualifications.
QualificationsBasic QualificationsApplicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application:
- M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O., or an equivalent degree
- Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level
- Strong clinical skills and a keen interest in Gastroenterology are preferred
Applicants must fulfill the following requirements by the time of employment:
- Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology
- Medical licensure or eligibility for licensure in California
- Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship or equivalent experience
