Medical Microbiologist (Assistant Professor to Professor)

The Department of Pathology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine seeks a full-time faculty member to join our Clinical Pathology division. This position offers a flexible faculty appointment (Assistant Professor to Professor) on the Clinician, Clinician-Educator, or Clinician-Scientist track, tailored to the candidate's experience, expertise, and career goals.
Qualifications
MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Pathology (CP) or Anatomic/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology.
Board certification, eligibility, or current fellowship training in Medical Microbiology.
Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Oklahoma.
A collaborative, proactive approach to working within a comprehensive lab medicine service line.
A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring pathology residents and medical students.
Preferred Skills:
Subspecialty interest or expertise in Molecular Diagnostics or Pathology Informatics.
Areas of Responsibility
I. Clinical Service
Provide expert professional services in medical microbiology and clinical pathology for OU Health, Inc.
Consult with medical staff and hospital administration to optimize pathology services and patient care.
Ensure laboratory services meet all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Participate in the clinical pathology on-call rotation and provide backup support for departmental colleagues.
Engage in Medical and Dental Staff committees as outlined in hospital bylaws.
II. Education & Mentorship
Deliver high-quality training to pathology residents and fellows through formal conferences and side-by-side instruction.
Contribute to the medical school curriculum through didactic lectures and student mentoring.
Provide technical and clinical guidance to medical technologists regarding emerging technologies and test applications.
III. Research & Scholarship
Develop and sustain independent or collaborative scholarly projects.
Disseminate findings through publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
Represent the Department by presenting research at national and international academic conferences.
